An ultrasonic tubular processor uses acoustic cavitation to achieve everything a basket mill does — deagglomeration, degassing, milling, mixing and emulsification — but through high-speed interparticle collisions generated by sound waves, rather than mechanical media grinding against pigment particles.

In testing and current production, an ultrasonic processor takes around 32 minutes to produce one tonne of paint. A conventional basket mill takes 6–8 hours to do the same job. That is roughly a sixteenfold reduction in production time, using around a twelfth of the energy per hour that traditional milling requires.
